Festa di San Michele
La seconda domenica di maggio ha luogo la tradizionale festa dedicata al patrono S. Michele Arcangelo, organizzata dall’associazione “Amici di Pornello”.
La manifestazione inizia nel pomeriggio con la celebrazione della S. Messa nella chiesa di S. Donato; segue la processione solenne con la statua del Santo per le vie dell’antico borgo e la benedizione delle campagne per auspicare buoni raccolti.
Al termine, a tutti i partecipanti vengono offerti i tradizionali biscotti al formaggio accompagnati dal vino rosso locale.
La sera antecedente la festa, come da antica tradizione contadina, viene acceso un falò propiziatorio.
Saint Michael's feast
On the 2nd Sunday of May takes place the traditional festival dedicated to the patron St. Michael the Archangel, organized by the no-profit association “Amici di Pornello”.
The event begins in the afternoon with the celebration of the Holy Mass in the church of St. Donato; it follows a solemn procession of the statue of the Saint along the streets of the ancient village and then the blessing of the farmlands in order to wish good harvests. In the end, all partecipants are offered traditional cheese biscuits accompanied with the local red wine. The night before the feast, according to an old rural tradition, an good- luck bonfire is lit up.
